Have you ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes at the Ontario Legislative Assembly? The Ontario Legislative Page Program provides Ontario Grade 7 and 8 students the opportunity to learn about it firsthand. This program allows students to work at the Ontario Legislature while learning about the provincial government, leadership, and public service.

While working as a page, students see Members of Provincial Parliament (MPP’s) meet to debate laws and make important decisions. They also support the daily work of representatives, performing tasks such as delivering messages and documents, assisting staff, and observing the government in action.

This program helps students understand how democracy works and learn more about how decisions are made that affect people across the province. It also teaches responsibility, professionalism, teamwork, and confidence.

When I went there on the first day, I was quite nervous. A fantastic teacher and coordinator of the Page Program there showed me that there isn’t a thing to be afraid of. One of my main fears was forgetting the names of the MPP’s. He assured me that if I ever forgot, he would be there to help me out.

The Page Program was a fantastic experience for me. I learned that many people are involved in making the program successful. You also get to meet Pages from different parts of Ontario.

I met my own MPP and worked closely with the staff at the Legislature. I even met the Premier and got to sit on his chair in his office!

Overall, I had a wonderful time at the Legislative building, and I would recommend applying for any future Grade 7 or 8 students.
