Region of Waterloo Public Health has confirmed that a staff member at Edna Staebler PS, last in the building on Thursday, September 3, has tested positive for COVID-19. The identity of the individual is protected by privacy legislation and will not be shared.

While Public Health cannot comment on the specifics of the case, they confirmed that they have investigated and determined that there are no high-risk contacts within the school during the case’s period of communicability. Public Health has also noted that exposure risk to others in the school is low given the layers of infection prevention protocols and measures in place at the school observed by the individual and by school staff.

Anyone identified as being a high-risk close contact with the individual will be notified by Public Health directly.

As per our protocol, access to the school will resume on Tuesday after the appropriate cleaning measures have been undertaken in the school. We will continue to take direction from Public Health and will provide further updates as necessary.

Communicating with WRDSB families, students and staff is a guiding principle of our Return to School plans. In accordance with guidance from the Ministry of Education, the Confirmed Cases of COVID-19 page will be updated on an ongoing basis with information regarding confirmed cases of COVID-19 involving a student or staff member in a school setting.

We thank you for your continued support during this time.
