Today, Grand River Collegiate Institute (GRCI) is hosting its 23rd Annual Student and Senior Christmas Tea. This wonderful afternoon is a proud tradition at GRCI and provides an opportunity for their students to make connections with seniors in their community.

Over 180 seniors from Victoria Place, Conestoga Lodge, Doon Village Retirement Home, Trinity Village, Winston Park, Highland PlaceCountryside Retirement Home, Pine Haven, and Sunnyside Retirement Residence will be treated to an afternoon of holiday treats prepared by GRCI’s hospitality classes, and will enjoy the musical talents of both students and staff. Also attending are proud Renegade grandparents and seniors from the surrounding school community.

Over 400 GRCI students are participating in a various capacities:  musicians, performers, food prepares, servers, decorators, organizers, tech crew, stage crew and Santa helpers.  As well over 30 staff members have volunteered their time to coordinate, organize, and facilitate this great community outreach event. A big thank you to Audrey Batters, science teacher, and Sara Milks, head of special education, who are the coordinators of this great event.

The staff and students of GRCI would like to acknowledge and express their appreciation of the following organization who without their donations, contributions and/or assistance, this afternoon would not be possible: Optimist club of Stanley Park, M & M Meat Shops, Stanley Park Zehrs, Tim Horton’s–Ottawa St. N, Alpha Kai Club, GRCI’s Me to We club, and GRCI’s hospitality classes.

The holiday season is a time for sharing and a time for caring regardless of age, belief, or culture; it is a time when friendship, understanding and peace should be plentiful.

Well done Renegades for giving back to your community and starting the festive season off in the spirit it was meant to be celebrated.
