On April 27, seven Grade 5 students from across the Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB) came together for the City of Waterloo’s State of the City. At the event, the students shared their big ideas on how to improve the quality of life in Waterloo, with many emphasizing sustainability, safety and accessibility.

Students from each ward were selected to act as Council for a Day, and were provided the opportunity to engage with the Mayor and councillors. At the event, students discussed topics such as adding public art around the city, increasing green spaces and making roads safer for those who walk to school.
