Today is International Lesbian Day. Celebrated on October 8 each year, International Lesbian Day is a day to honour the contributions of lesbians to the women’s rights and 2SLGBTQIA+ rights movements. It also serves to raise awareness of the unique issues that lesbians experience in their daily lives. Although the exact origin of the day is not confirmed, many believe it started in 1980 when a group of 40 lesbian activists organized a Lesbian Day March in New Zealand.

At the Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB), we are committed to ensuring our school communities and workplaces are inclusive and welcoming to all members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.
