At the virtual annual general meeting for the Waterloo Education Foundation Inc. (WEFI) on Wednesday, April 8, the WEFI Board of Directors passed a motion to provide $50,000 to Nutrition for Learning. Each year, Nutrition for Learning provides universal access to nutrition programs in 99 Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB) schools. The service they provide to our students and their families is instrumental in combating food insecurity in Waterloo region.

“I want to thank the Board of Directors for their leadership and support of donating to Nutrition for Learning,” said John Bryant, president of WEFI. “Food insecurity is an issue many families experience daily. Now, we find the need is greater to support our community however we can, as more families are facing unemployment or reduced income. We are proud to support Nutrition for Learning as they continue to support our students.”

Matthew Gerard, treasurer and secretary of WEFI, added that “I hope that this small gesture provides our students and families with some relief as we all work through this new reality together.”

“WEFI’s very generous donation will make a significant difference for the children and families that we serve through our Pop Up Nutrition Breaks,” said Mary D’Alton, director of strategic initiatives and operations at Nutrition for Learning. “In times of great challenge and hardship for many, support from long-standing partners like WEFI help us continue to serve those in need in our community.”
