Review Decision

Trustees endorsed the recommendations of the Final Report at the Committee of the Whole meeting on Monday, December 9, 2024. The decision was approved at the Board Meeting on December 16, 2024. The recommendations can be found on page 24 of the  Final Report.

The New School will open JK-7 in 2025/26 and will be JK-8 in 2026/27. The new boundaries impact Groh PS, Brigadoon PS and Pioneer Park PS.

Background

On Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at a Board Meeting of the Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB), Trustees approved the initiation of a boundary review involving:

  • Brigadoon Public School
  • Doon Public School
  • Groh Public School
  • JW Gerth Public School
  • Pioneer Park Public School

Review Purpose

The primary purpose of this boundary review is to establish an attendance area boundary for a new school planned to be constructed at 670 Thomas Slee Drive in the City of Kitchener. The school is tentatively scheduled to open in September 2025.

There will be no changes before June 2025.

Public Information Session #2 – Thursday, October 24, 2024

The purpose of this meeting is to:

  • Share the status of the Boundary Review Committee work
  • Share the proposed scenario, including maps, enrolment projections and implications
  • Remind attendees about the next steps and remaining opportunities to get involved
  • Share the dates for a final decision
  • Obtain feedback

Public Information Session #1 – May 1, 2024

The first public information session was held May 1, 2024.

The purpose of this meeting was to:

  • Introduce the Boundary Review process
  • Introduce Staff Steering Committee members
  • Provide context for this review by sharing the Technical Background Report
  • Advertise opportunities to participate in the Boundary Review Committee
  • Obtain feedback

A Report and Recommendation to initiate a Boundary Review was presented to the WRDSB Board Meeting on April 15, 2024. The Final Report will be presented to the Committee of the Whole on December 9, 2024.

Boundary Review Committee

A Boundary Review Committee is established, consisting of:

  • Principals of the schools involved
  • Superintendents of the schools involved
  • Family, caregiver and student representatives from the schools involved
  • Planning Department staff
  • Facility Services staff
