French Programs offered by the Waterloo Region District School Board
The core French program is a pathway that provides all students the opportunity to learn French. There is no application required for core French. The Waterloo Region District School Board also offers an optional French immersion program. Applications are now open to the lottery. Lottery application is open until January 31, 2024.
Who is eligible to apply for Grade 2 French immersion?
All children born in 2017 are invited to apply.
How do I apply for French immersion?
You can apply online at https://frenchimmersion.wrdsb.ca. WRDSB uses a lottery system to form our Grade 2 French immersion classes. Applications to the lottery are accepted until January 31 (Phase 1). You can apply any time during this period with no effect (positive or negative) on your child’s chance at a spot in the program. If you need help, call 519-570-0003 ext. 4419 or email frenchprograms@wrdsb.ca.
When will we know if our child is placed in the French immersion program?
Families are notified in early March if they have secured a spot in the French immersion program for Grade 2. Spots will be guaranteed for two weeks. During these two weeks, families must click on the link sent to their email to confirm the placement. If families decline their spot, students from the waiting list will be contacted to fill those spots.
