Core French Program
The Core French program provides all students with the opportunity to learn French. There is no application required for Core French.
French Immersion Program
The Waterloo Region District School Board also offers an optional French program called French Immersion. This program begins in Grade 1. To find out more about the French immersion program, visit our website.
The online application system will open on January 5, 2022. The deadline to apply for French Immersion is January 31, 2022.
Who is eligible to apply for Grade 1 French Immersion?
All children born in 2016 are invited to apply.
How do I apply for French Immersion?
You can apply online. Students who apply by January 31 will be randomly selected for a spot in the French Immersion program. Not all students will get into the program. Where space is available, we continue to accept applications until the 20th school day of the Grade 1 year (Phase 2). If you need help, call 519-570-0003 ext. 4419 or email frenchprograms@wrdsb.ca. When will we know if our child is placed in the French Immersion program?
Families are notified in early March if their child will be placed in French Immersion for Grade 1. Once your child gets into the program, you will be sent an email with a link. You must click on the link within 2 weeks to accept. You must complete a student registration or transfer paperwork if your child needs to change schools. If your child does not get into the program, there is a waiting list.
