Final Recommendations Approved

On Monday, January 12, 2026, at a Business Services Standing Committee Meeting of the Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB), the committee recommended approval of the proposed boundary change. This decision was ratified at the Monday, February 2, 2026 Board Meeting.

The agenda package, including the report and recommendations, is available here.

Background

The Abridged Boundary Review considered a proposed change to school boundaries in south Cambridge. The proposed change includes the following schools:

  • Central Public School (Junior Kindergarten to Grade 6)
  • Moffat Creek Public School (Junior Kindergarten to Grade 8)
  • Stewart Avenue Public School (Junior Kindergarten to Grade 8)
    • Central Public School feeds into Stewart Avenue Public School for Grades 7 and 8

This is an abridged boundary review focused on a small area, so a simplified process was used. It is was undertaken in response to feedback from the Branchton community.

Summary of Approved Changes

For those living in the impacted boundary:

  • Students currently attending Central Public School for Junior Kindergarten to Grade 6 are directed to Moffat Creek Public School, effective September 2026
  • Grade 7 students currently attending Stewart Avenue Public School may remain at that school for Grade 8 in the 2026-2027 school year
    • Students currently in Grade 8 are unaffected by this change
  • New students to this area (Affected Area A – see below) will attend Moffat Creek Public School

The Impacted Area

The impacted area is predominantly rural, containing the community of Branchton. It is currently directed to Central PS for Junior Kindergarten to Grade 6 and Stewart Avenue PS for Grades 7 and 8.

The subject area is located south of the Cambridge–North Dumfries boundary line and is bounded by the Grand River to the east, the North Dumfries–Hamilton boundary to the west, and the North Dumfries–Brant County boundary to the south.

Boundary Changes

The Board of Trustees is the ultimate approval body for any formal boundary change. Regardless of the Board of Trustees’ decision, there will be no changes before September 2026.
