The WRDSB employs over 500 custodial and maintenance staff that operate and maintain 123 schools and other administrative sites. We also engage a range of service contractors to assist internal maintenance staff as well as provide services such as waste management, snow/ice control, grass cutting, etc. Facility Services is responsible for all aspects of caring for the school campus from keeping it clean to repairing what’s broken, ultimately ensuring that it is safe and comfortable.

CUSTODIAL

Our custodians work with school administration, staff, and students in the daily operation of the school and for special school and community events, often working overtime to accommodate needs. They use up-to-date cleaners, tools, and machines while following established policies and procedures to ensure our sites are clean and safe for anyone who uses them.

TRADES

Our trades staff is responsible for preventative maintenance, inspections, and repairs at all our sites. They are involved in the operation, installation, and renewal of building structural, mechanical, and electrical systems. Our tradespeople play a vital role in ensuring students, staff, and community members have a safe and comfortable place for learning and community gatherings.

We have trades staff on both the day shift and afternoon shift as well as Electricians and HVAC Technicians who cover the after-hours on-call service to ensure concerns are addressed as needed.

GROUNDS

Our Grounds team is responsible for installing, maintaining, and inspecting all outdoor features at our Board sites. With safety being their top priority, Grounds Technicians take care of all grounds-related requests, either doing the work themselves or coordinating with external contractors.

Areas of focus include, but are not limited to:
Playgrounds, natural areas, trees, gardens, grass cutting, outdoor signage, irrigation systems, small projects (paving, landscaping, drainage, outdoor storage sheds), fences, safety gates, pavement and pavement painting.
