This study affects the Westvale neighbourhood

At the February 13, 2012 Committee of the Whole meeting, the Board of Trustees voted unanimously in favour of the following changes to the Sir John A. Macdonald Secondary School boundary:

  • Effective September 2012, the Westvale neighbourhood will be in the Kitchener-Waterloo Collegiate & Vocational School (KCI) boundary.
  • Grandparenting:
    • Students in the affected area (Westvale neighbourhood) who are enrolled at SJAM during the 2011/12 school year have the option to stay at SJAM, or to attend KCI. Transportation will be provided to either school effective September 2012 to June 2017.
    • Students in the affected area (Westvale neighbourhood) who are in Grade 8 during the 2011/12 school year have the option to enrol at SJAM; however, the home school will be KCI. Transportation will be provided to either school effective September 2012 to June 2017.

On January 17, 2011, the Ad Hoc Committee for the Secondary School Boundary Study presented an interim report to the Board of Trustees. The Board approved the following motion based on the recommendations of the Committee:

“That the Waterloo Region District School Board undertake during the 2011/12 school year, community consultation with respect to the proposed Secondary School Boundary changes between Kitchener Waterloo Collegiate Institute and Sir John A. Macdonald Secondary School identified in the Interim Secondary School Boundary Report originally presented to Board May 17, 2010”

There will be a minimum of 2 public meetings held throughout this study.
