Transformational Financial Support for Youth Affected by Multiple Sclerosis

The Follow the Leader Scholarship Program will award up to three exceptional Ontario-based youth with the financial support they need to overcome the financial obstacles that come with a personal or familial diagnosis of multiple sclerosis, enabling them to attain the education they need to reach their full potential and become the next generation of MS leaders.

The recipients must be enrolled in a science, technology, engineering or math undergraduate program and will receive $25,000/year for four years to apply to tuition and living expenses.

Shortlisted candidates will be asked to participate in a panel interview.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible to apply, applicants must meet ALL of the following criteria:

  • Be high school seniors or graduates who have MS or who have an immediate family member with MS; written confirmation of diagnosis from a healthcare professional is required
  • Be a Canadian citizen and a resident of Ontario
  • Entering their first year of post-secondary education and enrolled, or plans to enroll, in a full-time, accredited undergraduate course of study in science, technology, engineering or mathematics*
  • Minimum high school average of 85% over the last three terms of available marks (transcript required)
  • Demonstrated leadership and/or community participation through two reference letters from a non-family member
    (min. one academic)
  • Include a written submission (max. 800 words) on the relationship of MS in the student’s life and how their course of study will guide them on a path that will impact people living with MS
  • Ability to demonstrate financial need

*Eligible degree programs must fall in one of these 4 disciplines and will remain at the discretion of the scholarship provider. Meeting the overall criteria is not a guarantee of receipt of the scholarship.
