About Kindergarten
What are the benefits of full day learning in Kindergarten?
Based on Dr. Charles Pascal’s report, “With Our Best Future in Mind,” Kindergarten provides children with a high quality seamless program that helps lay the foundation for a healthy and productive life. Through a rich play-based environment children will build foundational cognitive, social, and emotional self-regulation skills that will enable them to succeed in future grades.
Who will be supporting my child’s learning in the classroom?
A team, consisting of a full time teacher and a registered Early Childhood Educator, typically staffs kindergarten classrooms. The educator works together to plan, deliver, assess, and communicate about student learning.
Is my child eligible for transportation?
Transportation may be provided to students who are eligible to attend Kindergarten.
Parents who wish to have their child attend the before and after school extended day program at their school are required to provide transportation to and from school each day.
May my child attend Kindergarten outside of our school boundary?
In keeping with Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB) policy, normally elementary student shall attend the school located within the boundary in which the parents and/or legal guardian reside. It is important that boundaries are adhered to whenever possible and that there is consistency across the system.
How can I learn more about the before and after school programs offered at my child’s school?
The WRDSB offers two optional, fee-based Before and After School Programs in our schools for our students: Extended Day for children in JK – Grade 2 and Youth Development programs for children in Grades 3 – 6. These programs are led by Early Childhood Educators out of full-day kindergarten classrooms.
School-based child care programs offer you access to high quality programs in one convenient location, with no waiting lists.
Where can I find more information about Kindergarten?
