Across our board yesterday, our schools are marked Remembrance Day.

Thousands of our students and staff honoured the people who fought for our freedom, sacrificed their lives, and continue to serve our great nation. On behalf of the Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB), we thank all our Canadian heroes for their bravery and commitment to keeping us safe. We are grateful for your service. You make us proud to be Canadian.

Additionally, flags at all Waterloo Region District School Board schools and worksites were lowered to half-mast from sunrise to sunset.

Eastwood Collegiate Institute

Each year, we showcase a Remembrance Day ceremony at one of our schools. This year, we were pleased to share the ceremony from Eastwood Collegiate Institute (ECI) in Kitchener. Their event includes a video presentation, band performances, personal reflections and a tribute to remembering Canada’s Liberation of the Netherlands.

Education Centre

This year, more than 200 staff members, representing every department, came together at our Education Centre to enjoy the ECI livestream performance, including Director John Bryant, Associate Director Lila Read, members of the senior team and trustees.

“Our students and staff worked hand-in-hand to put together an incredible ceremony that honoured the sacrifices of those who served our country,” said Bryant. “I am so grateful for the efforts of each and every person involved in bringing this performance to our community.”

We would like to thank all of the students and staff who helped to deliver this ceremony to our community members and who ensured this Remembrance Day was truly an occasion to honour all those who have sacrificed so greatly for Canada.
