On December 5, students at Clemens Mill PS filled the gym to take part in their 16th annual Aerobithon. Decked out in red, green and other festive clothing, students worked out, danced and flossed to celebrate supporting the Cambridge Self-Help Foodbank.

The Foodbank provided profiles and a holiday wish list of 15 families in need; each classroom supported a family by donating items on the wish list or by purchasing gift cards or making a monetary donation.

Global Issues Club members collected donations as students entered the gym for their celebration. Students sorted toys, books, games and winter clothes into bins for each family before they wrapped and labelled each gift.

Throughout the celebration, students shared their excitement about being able to give back and help people in the community. They made connections to empathy and social responsibility, a focus for the month, and how it relates to helping those less fortunate.

This year, the generous spirit of the Clemens Mill PS community filled 22 bins with items and donated an additional $1400 to make sure 15 local families had food on their plates, clothes on their backs and gifts under the tree.

Seeing our students and staff support people in their community made us so happy that we joined in the dancing celebration. Thank you to everyone who donated and organized this event, you have made the holiday season brighter for 15 families.

We are counting down 12 days of giving where we feature some of the wonderful acts of kindness our staff and students are modelling during the holiday season.

You can check out all of the great acts of giving in our schools (there’s more than just 12) by following us on TwitterInstagram or Facebook.
