Consultants in our Learning Services – Program department know there are always families in our community who can use some extra help, but during the holiday season, those needs are more significant.

Throughout the year, consultants make weekly donations. “I noticed people were dressing casually on Fridays, so I suggested we donate to a dress down Friday fund,” says Wanda West, the consultant for French language programs. The contributions have helped a variety of causes, from putting food on the tables and gifts under the trees of families in our region to making sure a family can provide a proper burial for their child.

This holiday season, donations have totalled over $300, and staff will be supporting three youth through the Family and Children’s Services Support Program. “We are very fortunate here in Waterloo Region to have what we have,” says Wanda. “Everybody is more than willing to give something back to our community.”

For over ten years, consultants have quietly raised money to support local families and organizations. Not many people in our district know about this initiative, which is why decided to highlight the generous spirit of our Education Centre staff as part of our 12 Days of Giving campaign.

Our consultants give back because they like to help those who need it most. “I think it’s important that if we can help out, we do,” says Wanda. “It also in a way brings us all together. It makes us feel good when we can do something for someone else.”

It makes us feel good to have our staff go above and beyond for our students and their families this holiday season.

We are counting down 12 days of giving where we feature some of the wonderful acts of kindness our staff and students are modelling during the holiday season.
