Update: At 10:25 a.m. the Hold and Secure had been lifted at all three schools. The Hold and Secure was put in place due to an incident in the community. This was a safety precaution to keep children secure while the police managed the incident.

 

At around 9:10 a.m., Waterloo Region Police Service issued a Hold and Secure at Preston Public School, Grand View Public School and Preston High School due to an incident in the area. A Hold and Secure is issued as a response to a threat and/or incident in the area of a school, but not on or very near to school property. Throughout a Hold and Secure, school life continues as normal inside the school, but outer doors are locked and no one enters or leaves the building.
