At the Committee of the Whole Meeting held April 20, 2015, trustees approved the name of the new west Waterloo elementary school.

The new school located on Sweet Gale Street, will be named Vista Hills Public School. The name relates to the geographical area of the school. The hills in the area were developed overtime by the Laurentide Ice Sheet and the Waterloo Moraine, which provides drinking water for people throughout Waterloo Region.

Over 200 name suggestions were received over a three week period.

The school is scheduled to open in September 2016, and will accommodate approximately 646 students in Junior Kindergarten to Grade 8.

All items approved at a Committee of the Whole Meeting are subject to final approval at a Board Meeting.
