  • Building New School Communities in Baden and Waterloo

    The sod turning for Sir Adam Beck Public School, Snyder's Road West in Baden, took place on September 1, 2009.  The school will accommodate approximately 450 junior kindergarten to grade 6 students.

     

     

     A sod turning took place on September 3, 2009, for Millen Woods Public School on New Hampshire Street in Waterloo. Scheduled to open in September 2010, the school will accommodate approximately 400 students in junior kindergarten to grade 6.

  • ETFO Newsletter Editor's Award

    Waterloo Region Teacher and editor of ETFO INFO John Payne has been presented with the Newsletter Editor's Award. This award recognizes the outstanding work of done by the editors. John works hard to incorporate events that happen in the classroom and within Waterloo Region schools. ETFO INFO is published four to six times a year depending on the events and issues happening locally.

    Newcomer students who have recently arrived in Ontario from countries where the usual means of communication is a language other than English, are asked to visit the Welcome Centre. The Welcome Centre is located at 749 King Street West, Unit 203, Kitchener, Ontario.

  • Local Teacher Receives Award

    Waterloo Region's Elementary Teacher's Federation has handed teacher James McCormack the Federation's Local Leadership Award. The award recognizes outstanding service and leadership, demonstrated high standards of personal and professional ethics during the previous school year. James is currently serving his seventh year as President of the ETFO in Waterloo Region which represents 2,500 public elementary school teachers.
    In addition to receiving this award, James was elected to the excutive of the Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario.

  • Recognizing School Grounds Greening Support

    The Waterloo Region DSB thanks the Lyle S. Hallman Foundation, TD Friends of the Environment Foundation (Kitchener, Waterloo and Cambridge) and Toyota Evergreen for their generous support of the School Ground Greening program in our schools.  Through Evergreen consultant Dennis Wendland, support is provided to interested school committees that are engaged in re-thinking their school grounds.
