Southeast Galt Elementary Schools' Pupil Accommodation Review
At the Board Meeting held on October 26, 2009, trustees gave final approval to the recommendations for the Southeast Galt Elementary School's Pupil Accommodation Review.
Trustees approved:
- Alison Park PS will be closed and the property be declared surplus;
- Lincoln Avenue PS will be closed effective August 31, 2013 and the building and property be declared surplus;
- Avenue Road PS will receive an addition of approximately 200 pupil places and renovations, including a child care to tentatively be completed for September 2012 at a cost of $5.8M and subject to Ministry approval;
- Avenue Road PS would be converted to a Junior Kindergarten to Grade 8 elementary program with junior kindergarten to Grade 8 classes over a two year period. Junior Kindergarten to Grade 7 tentatively scheduled to start in September 2012 and Grade 8 added effective September 2013;
- Construction of a new Junior Kindergarten to Grade 8 school of approximately 640 pupil places including child care on a site to be acquired on the north side of Myers Road, west of Dundas Street to tentatively open September 2012. The opening of the schools, estimated to cost $12.4M, is subject to land acquisition and Ministry approval;
- The Board will seek non-profit child care operators to partner in the new construction at Avenue Road PS and the new Junior Kindergarten to Grade 8 schools on the north side of Meyers Road;
- New boundaries for Avenue Road PS, Chalmers Street PS, Stewart Avenue PS and the new Junior Kindergarten to Grade 8 school to coincide with the planned new facility openings, tentatively effective September 2012 for Grade 7 students and September 2013 for Grade 8 students.
The recommendation was approved unanimously.
