The Ontario Technological Skills Competition held May 6, at RIM Park was a great success in the Waterloo District School Board in terms of participation and competition results. The Students that received a gold medal standing will be continuing on to the Canada Technologic Skills Competition 2008, in Calgary May 25 - 28 (with the exception of CAM, HST and Industrial Wiring categories).

Waterloo Region DSB students competed in the Ontario Technological Skills Competition, held May 4-6 at RIM Park in Waterloo. The showcase, the largest skilled trades competition in Canada, hosted 1500 competitors in over 60 categories from all over the province. The WRDSB finished with 10 medals overall: two gold, five silver and three bronze.
Waterloo Wellington Technological Skills Results
Congratulations to all students who participated in the Waterloo Region Technological Skills Competition, held March 23-27. The Waterloo Region DSB has 37 gold medal winners that will advance to the Ontario Technological Skills Competition held at RIM Park on May 5.
Canadian Skills Competition 2008
The Waterloo Region DSB sent two competitors to the Canadian Skills Competition in Calgary. After they both placed first in Ontario, they nobly represented our school board and Ontario with a gold medal and a 4th place performance in their respective categories.
Congratulations to Andre Recnik (WCI) for his gold medal in IT PC Network Support, and to Derek Hurst (CHCI) for his 4th place finish in PC Office Applications.
Skills Canada Electrical Expert
Marty Clemmer, a Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program student from Elmira DSS, came home a bronze medalist after traveling to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan to compete in the electrical wiring contest at the 13th annual Canadian Skills Competition. More than 500 youth from across Canada competed in more than 40 trade and technology contest areas at this year’s event. The competition is the largest national multi-trade and technology competition for students and apprentices.
WRDSB Shines at Ontario Technological Skills Competition
At the beginning of May students from around the Region participated in the Ontario Technological Skills Competition at RIM Park in Waterloo. Waterloo Region District School Board students performed very well, medaling in 9 categories and sending 2 people to Nationals in June. WRDSB medalists include:
Jeremy Vervoort and Brent Jaworski, both OYAP students from Elmira DSS won gold in the Landscape Design category.
Tyler Woeschka, also from the Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program at Elmira received bronze in the Auto Service Technology category.
Cameron Heights Sends Four to Skills Canada
Craig Hutchison and Chris Korroch received Gold in 3D animation, while fellow school mates Byron Dunbar and Matt Ingraham took Gold in 2D animation. The four students from Cameron Heights Secondary School will be competing at the Provincial level at Skills Canada at RIM Park.
EDSS Students Win Gold at Skills Competition
Jeremy Vervoort and Brent Jaworski from Elmira District Secondary School have won gold in the Landscape Gardening category at the Ontario Technological Skills Competition. The two students qualified for the provincial competition by earning gold at the Regional Skills Competition held in late February.
Ontario Technical Skills Competition Winners
Medals were won by fourteen Waterloo Region District School Board students at the Ontario Technological Skills Competitions held at RIM Park. Winners came from Cameron Heights CI, Elmira DSS, Preston HS and Waterloo CI.
Gold medalists from this competition advance to the Canadian Skills Competition in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
