March Break is Almost Here

March break for 2010 will be held March 15 - 19 inclusive.  Schools will be closed during the break and will reopen Monday, March 22, following regular school hours.

Employment Fair was a Great Success

Learning Services held its first ever: Employment Fair for Workplace Destination Students. Many local companies offering a variety of different full-time, part-time and summer positions were on hand interviewing students who have chosen employment as their post-secondary destination. Approximately 50 students from 13 secondary schools across the region participated in this event. Volunteers from local youth employment agencies met with students prior to their interviews to provide them with some last-minute tips to help them make a positive impression on prospective employers.

Official Opening of $3.3M Addition at Bridgeport PS

The Waterloo Region District School Board is pleased to announce the official opening of a major addition of five classrooms and with renovations, a total of eight classrooms added to Bridgeport Public School.

Special guests, parents, students and staff will gather in the gym of the school at 7:00 PM on Wednesday March 10, 2010 for a short opening ceremony complete with a ribbon cutting. An open house will follow.

Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at Franklin PS

The official opening of a major addition of five classrooms and a new gymnasium at Franklin PS was held on Thursday February 18, 2010. Students, staff , parents and special guests gathered in the gymnasium for a ceremony, presentation by students and a ribbon cutting. An open house of the school followed the ceremony.

The school was originally opened to students in September 1963. Franklin PS currently serves approximately 600 junior kindergarten to grade 6 students and is located at 371 Franklin Street North in Kitchener.

Transportation Review Reduces Walking Distances


At the February 22, 2010 Board meeting, trustees gave final approval to recommendations from a Board Transportation Review Committee that will result in shorter walking distances for Board students.

2009 Annual Report

The Waterloo Region District School Board has released the 2009 Annual Report. In accordance with the Education Act, the Director of Education must provide a report to the Ministry of Education each year. In Waterloo Region DSB, this report is shared with everyone in the Region by posting the report on the Board's website.

Early Learning Kindergarten Program Introduced in Some Local Schools

The Waterloo Region District School Board has announced the elementary schools which have been approved by the Ministry of Education to implement the first phase of the all day every day, Early Learning Kindergarten Program for 4 and 5 year old children. The program will be phased in to all schools in the province over the next five years, beginning in September 2010.

Linda Fabi, Director of Education with the Waterloo Region DSB commented, “We welcome this program model as a positive addition to the existing outstanding kindergarten programs in our Board and throughout Ontario.
