As Canadians recognized Orange Shirt Day across our nation, the staff and students at Margaret Avenue Public School also participated in the movement.

For the past three years, people have been wearing orange on September 30 to show support to the residential school system survivors, and to remember those who didn’t. It is a simple visual action that anyone can participate in, but one that draws much needed attention to the First Nations communities and people affected.

According to the Orange Shirt Day website, “the date was chosen because it is the time of year in which children were taken from their homes to residential schools, and because it is an opportunity to set the stage for anti-racism and anti-bullying policies for the coming school year.”

Lets come together in the spirit of healing and reconciliation.
