This past Saturday, Lincoln Heights Public School invited guests to come help celebrate their 50th Anniversary. It was a welcoming experience as they welcomed current and former staff, students and community members to their school to reminisce and reconnect.

Visitors took a walk through the decades, viewing a variety of displays created by the school’s learning buddies. Displays centred around how education, technology, music and pop culture has changed over the years. Many old photographs, yearbooks and artifacts were out on display.

The event was commemorated officially during a ceremony in the gym. Words of congratulations and recognition were shared on behalf of the WRDSB by Superintendent of Education Elaine Ranney, and Chairperson of the Board Kathleen Woodcock. Councillor Mark Whaley, and MP Peter Braid also spoke, presenting the school with Certificates of Congratulations. Finally, a very special cake cutting took place, with Peter West, current principal of Preston Public School and a kindergarten student at Lincoln Heights PS the year it opened, and one of the school’s current Junior Kindergarten students.

Thanks to all those who helped make the open house a great day. They are proud of their school and community and enjoyed sharing it with everyone in attendance. Looking onward and upward to the next 50 years!
