It seems that whenever Sheppard Public School is given a challenge, they always rise to the occasion – it also usually means that an array of crazy requests end up being put upon their teachers as a way to celebrate!

The latest one was their Polar Plunge to celebrate reaching their goal in the We Create Change campaign to buy goats for Free the Children communities. “Raise $750 to buy 15 goats and we will take the Plunge” they challenged the students. Their students took the challenge to heart and raised $1,100 or 22 goats (bringing their total to 38 so far…and counting). So on a sunny but very cold -15 degrees Celsius day, we filled a pool with freezing water, bared some skin and donned some crazy costumes to take the Polar Plunge while our students cheered us on (toasty warm in their snowsuits, we might add). A little friendly teacher competition to see who could stay in the longest rounded out the fun! Our Sheppard community never ceases to amaze us with their generosity and compassion. Our We Create Change campaign was just one of many examples of how our community reaches out to others and affects positive change in the world. One goat can open up a world of possibilities to a family in a developing country, providing nutrition and a valuable source of alternative income to help break the cycle of poverty.

Way to goat, Sheppard Flyers!
