September 24, 2014 Kitchener, ON: More Grade 10 Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB) students demonstrate their confidence and readiness to achieve one of their graduating requirements by attempting the 2014 Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT) in March of this year.

“The Waterloo Region District School Board is pleased to see the continued efforts of our staff and students being rewarded with the recent results from the 2014 OSSLT” says Scott Miller, Assistant (to) the Superintendent of Learning Services. “As a board we continue to see high rates of participation among out students, and high rates of success with 83% of first time eligible students successfully completing the OSSLT.”

Highlights of Results

  • We continue to see an increase in student success, with 83% of students successfully completing the assessment
  • Ontario’s Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) base their overall provincial and school board data using the number of eligible first time students who wrote the test in March of this year (see Graph B).
  • For those who did not achieve the required level, the student may re-write the test, or chose to take a course that they must pass in order to fulfil graduating requirements. Supports are provided to students so that they can be successful at their second attempt.
