Reporting to the Director of Education, the Communication team is the first point of contact between the board and its stakeholder groups. The purpose of this department is to facilitate and support the communication of clear and accurate information about the board and its activities. This includes:

  1. Among schools, employees, trustees, parents, school councils, volunteers, and community
  2. Between the WRDSB and stakeholders/community partners in the Region of Waterloo
  3. Ensure strong engagement of divisions with the WRDSB, our schools and community

The Communication team is responsible for:

  • Board website maintenance and development
  • School and board event planning / support
  • Social media
  • Media releases
  • Media requests
  • Crisis communications and issues management
  • Visual identity guidelines
  • Advertising and promotions
  • Providing communications support for schools and staff
  • Ensuring the tools meet the needs of the WRDSB, families and community

Media Requests

All media requests for the WRDSB must be made through the Communication team. This is to ensure the accuracy of information and contact with the appropriate spokesperson. Please direct all media requests to:

The WRDSB social media account is maintained by the Communications Department, Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. You can follow us for information on school events, board news, emerging issues, and information from our community partners.

Engaging Respectfully on Social Media

Social media is an important part of how we communicate with the students, families and communities that we serve. To help keep it a space where we can have meaningful conversations, we must make it a respectful experience for all involved. With this in mind, we will hide or delete any messages or comments that are considered:

  • Abusive
  • Advertisements or promotions of:
    • Services
    • Products
    • Political organizations
  • Advocations of illegal activity
  • Harmful
  • Hateful
  • Infringement of copyrights or trademarks
  • Insults
  • Knowingly false
  • Off-topic or disruptive
  • Offensive
  • Private or personal information
  • Racist
  • Spam
  • Threatening
  • Violations of WRDSB policies, procedures or protocols

This includes any language or imagery that may be in potential breach of the Ontario Human Rights Code.

When accounts engage in repeated instances of conduct described above, the WRDSB reserves the right to block the account for a period of time, or permanently, depending on the circumstances.
